Dr. Joseph Ahrens
Dr. Joseph Ahrens is a two-time Nobel Prize nominee and internationally recognized scientist in plant, metabolic, and nutrition research. His career spans academia, industry, and innovation, with discoveries that have reshaped how we view nutrition and wellness.
Dr. Ahrens began his academic career at the University of California, Davis, where he pioneered new food packaging and delivery systems. Working with companies like McDonald’s, Del Monte, Dole, and Chiquita, he played a pivotal role in the introduction of convenient produce innovations such as baby-cut carrots.
Later, as Director of Technology at Green Giant Fresh, he oversaw the development of ready-to-use produce that transformed modern convenience foods. In 2001, as Director of Research for the Florida Department of Citrus, he investigated the role of natural plant compounds in metabolic health. This led to the groundbreaking concept of Flavonoid Deficiency Syndrome the idea that missing flavonoids in modern diets contribute to metabolic imbalance and inflammation.
This research inspired the creation of EMULIN®, a patented formulation of three flavonoids quercetin, myricetin, and chlorogenic acid designed to support carbohydrate metabolism and inflammation pathways. Dr. Ahrens co-founded ATM Metabolics, translating these discoveries into real-world nutritional innovations.
